- Experienced wooden pencil users know that different pencils need different tip shapes. An ultra-sharp long point is great for ordinary HB or #2 pencils, but softer leads and colored pencils need a shorter, blunter tip to avoid constant breakage. Luckily, with the Kutsuwa Stad K'Zool, you don't need a different sharpener for every type of pencil you use.
- Turning the K'Zool's dial changes the angle of the blade to create five discrete sharpness settings, which are indicated by the number of bars visible in the triangular window below the dial.
- One bar indicates the bluntest setting, and five bars indicates the sharpest setting. If the tip of a pencil's lead core breaks off inside the sharpener, press the button in the center of the dial to eject it.
- A sliding panel can be used to cover the opening of the sharpener, preventing pencil shavings from falling out when it is not in use.

Kutsuwa recommends the following settings for each pencil type:
- 1-2: Colored pencils.
- 3-4: Soft graphite pencils.
- 5: Medium and hard graphite pencils.
